Course Eligibility

  • Must be unemployed or on a low income (less than £17,000)
  • Be receiving a benefit or not
  • A UK resident for 3 years or more
  • Aged 19 or older on 31 August within the 2021 to 2022 funding year
  • Must be a resident of Wakefield or surrounding areas

Course Description

On completion of the course, learners will be booked for the Forward Tipping Dumper course (3 Days-NPORS card) we do have an agreement that no one will be waiting more than 4 weeks for this element.

Week One – Highways

Full introduction into the use of cat and genny to locate and protect utilities, excavating holes and trenches along with re-instatement of sub-material and tarmac, The opportunity to lay flagstones and block paving along with segregation of the work area based on traffic control using signals, signs and cones.

Conforming to Productive Working Practices in the Workplace

Segregating the Area for Highways Works in the Workplace

Locating and Protecting Utilities Apparatus and Substructures in the Workplace

Excavating Holes and Trenches – Manual Digging in the Workplace

Laying Modular pavement in the Workplace

Reinstating Excavation and Highway Surfaces in the Workplace

Week Two – CSCS

Gives the learners knowledge and experience in a real workplace environment by learning further about health and safety gaining CSCS card.

Award in Health and Safety within a Construction Environment
