Course Eligibility

  • Candidates need to be 19 or older as of 31st August 2024
  • Must be receiving a benefit ( ESA/UC/JSA)
  • Must be able to travel to Stoke for the full duration of the course
  • Must not be in any other form of education or Government funded training course
  • Must have lived in the UK for 3 years or more
  • Must have a valid form of ID

Course Description

This is a 8 week intense programme available to residents of Staffordshire, that can travel to Stoke.

Please note – To be invited to the induction for this course, you MUST be able to provide the following documents: Full proof of ID (This must be a birth certificate or passport only) & Proof of your National Insurance number. 

These must be sent us before we can invite you to the induction, failure to do so may compromise your place on the course.

Course includes, PPE, Medical/D&A tests and the learners all go immediately on to the books of an employer on course completion.

Course Units:

Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Rail Engineering Track Maintenance

Level 2 Certificate in Rail Engineering Underpinning Knowledge

Critical safety licences and tickets including;

PTS – Personal Track Safety
TIC – Track Induction Course
OLEC1 – Overhead lines on site
DCCR – Direct Current Conductor Rail

Maintenance technology
Maintaining Mechanical Devices and Equipment
Prepare to Undertake duties in the Rail Industry
Undertake routine Manual Maintenance of the Permanent Way
Carry Out Corrective Adjustments to Permanent Way Assets
Assist in preparing Resources for the Permanent Way
Undertake Replacement of Permanent Way Assets and Components
Restore Track Geometry Faults to Operational conditions
Prepare Small Plant, Measuring Equipment and Tools for Permanent Way Renewal
Deal with Incidents and Contingencies withing Rail Environment
Lift and move permanent way materials components and equipment
Restore Plain Track Geometry to Operational Condition
Restore Rail switches and crossings to Operational Condition.
