  • Must be unemployed or on a low income (less than £20,319)
  • Be receiving a benefit (UC/JSA/ESA)
  • A UK resident for 3 years or more
  • Aged 19 or older on or before 31 August 2024
  • Non Devolved areas only
  • Must not be in any other form of education or training course 

Course Description

This is a remote course. You must have access to a laptop or computer.

You can work on this course at your own pace, as long as the course is completed within the 2 month time frame given.

What does this qualification cover?

The purpose of this qualification is to develop learners’ knowledge and understanding in the area of infection control including the principles and prevention particularly in the context of health and social care.

The objective of the qualification is to enable learners to gain knowledge and understanding of:

• the meaning and importance of infection control
• the causes of infections, the conditions in which they thrive, and the ways that they can be spread
• the methods used to prevent and control the spread of infection.

The qualification covers the importance of good infection control practices and the implications these can have on the worker and individuals they care for. The qualification provides the learner with the underpinning knowledge and understanding of the prevention and control of infections in healthcare settings and will support their role in the workplace.

Who is it suitable for?

This qualification is aimed at anyone working in a healthcare or social care environment, who wish to gain an understanding in the prevention and control of infection.

How is this qualification structured?

The qualification is made up of four mandatory units:

Unit 1 Understanding the principles of effective decontamination, cleaning and waste management to reduce the risk of infection
Unit 2 Understanding the principles of infection control
Unit 3 Understanding the causes and spread of infection
Unit 4 Principles of good practice in the prevention of infection

How is it assessed?

This qualification is assessed via an internally assessed and externally verified portfolio of evidence.
