Course Eligibility

  • Must be unemployed or on a low income (less than £25,000)
  • You can still apply even if you are not receiving a benefit
  • A UK resident for 3 years or more
  • Aged 19 or older on or before 31 August 2024
  • Must not be in any other form of education or training course 
  • Must have access to either a Laptop/Tablet or PC
  • Must have internet access
  • Must not already hold the same qualification 
  • The programme is NOT available in the following regions: Greater Manchester, Greater London, Liverpool, West and South Yorkshire, North of Tyne, Tees Valley, Cambridge and Peterborough, Bristol, Bath, Birmingham, The Black Country & Coventry.

Course Description

This is a remote course. You must have access to a laptop or computer.

You can work on this course at your own pace, as long as the course is completed within the 2 month time frame given.

What does this qualification cover?

This qualification provides an ideal taster for those who may be new to the sector or new to the world of work. It is accessible to learners of all ages who may want to understand more about working in health and social care. It aims to introduce some basic concepts of caring and preparation for employment in the sector.

The qualification covers the areas of communication, equality, diversity and inclusion, personal development, role of the social care worker, handling information, health and safety, safeguarding, duty of care and person-centred approaches.

It is a must have for anyone taking the adult Intermediate Health and Social Care apprenticeship.

Who is it suitable for?

Anyone working towards a career in adult health and social care in a supervised job role.

How is this qualification structured?

The qualification is made up of nine mandatory units:

Unit 1 Principles of safeguarding and protection in health and social care
Unit 2 Understand the role of the social care worker
Unit 3 Introduction to duty of care in health, social care or childrens and young peoples settings
Unit 4 Principles of diversity, equality and inclusion in adult social care settings
Unit 5 Understand person-centred approaches in adult social care settings
Unit 6 Principles of communication in adult social care settings
Unit 7 Principles of personal development in adult social care settings
Unit 8 Understand health and safety in social care settings
Unit 9 Understand how to handle information in social care settings

How is it assessed?

This qualification is assessed via an internally assessed and externally verified portfolio of evidence.
