Course Eligibility

  • Must be unemployed (or earning less than 20k per annum and able to fully commit to the course timings/duration)
  • UK resident for 3 years or more
  • Candidates need to be 19 or older as of 31st August 2024
  • Must be able to travel to Tyseley
  • Must be a resident of West Midlands Combined Authority
  • Must be able to commit to the full course timings & schedule
  • Must have a valid/in date form of photo ID
  • Must be able to pass a mandatory Network Rail Drug Alcohol and medical check on week 5 of the course

Course Description

This is a 7 week intense programme in Railway Engineering.

You will develop develop knowledge of practical and theoretical engineering skills needed to work on rail tracks safely and effectively.

The course is available to residents of West Midlands Combined Authority who must be able to travel to Tyseley for classroom & Practical training. (Practical training will be around 10 -12 days throughout the 7 weeks).

  • Are you keen to start a new career in the rail industry, happy with night work/ outside work/ practical work?
  • Can you pass a  Drug and Alcohol test?
  • Are you fit and healthy and would you be likely to pass a Network Rail Medical?

Upon successful completion, you will achieve:

  • Level 2 NVQ in Rail Engineering
  • Guaranteed job opportunities pending full course completion.
  • Rates of Pay £13 – £16 per hr
  • All mandatory Network rail training including PTS and Track Induction
  • Sentinel card and profile
  • Manual handling
  • Emergency first aid
  • Small plant training with an individual competency card issues upon completion
  • Network Rail Drug Alcohol and Medical

Start Date: Monday 2nd December 2024
Duration: 7 Weeks (Full time, Monday – Friday)  – For this course, there will be a break in learning to allow for the Christmas period and training will re commence in January.
Location: Classroom study & Practical will be in Tyseley B11 (Full locations will be confirmed upon successful enrolment)
